Set in occupied France during World War II. The Last Metro tells the story of Marion Steiner (Catherine Deneuve), who manages the Theatre Montmarte in the stead of her Jewish husband, director Lucas Steiner (Heinz Bennert). He has reportedly fled France but is really hiding out in the basement of the theater. The only hope to save the troupe is a new play starring the dynamic and renowned actor, Bernard Granger (Gerard Depatdieu), to whom Marion is attracted. As usual, Truffaut manages to create tension and drama from such conflicting emotions and dilemma.
