Room Laundering(HKAFF 2018) @MOViE MOViE

Fantasia International Film Festival

Miko lost her father at a young age. Then her mother left and her grandmother died. With no one left to rely on, the introverted girl works as a “room launderer” for her dodgy uncle. She temporarily stays in flats whose previous occupants died in order to clean the slate for owners who are legally required to divulge deaths on the property to prospective tenants. Miko doesn’t care to interact with people – or the ghosts she sees – until a persistent, talkative spirit breaks down her defenses. As she helps the dead, she also learns to live. Katagiri Kenji’s feature debut charms in spades with its quirky supernatural tale about coming of age, coming out of one’s shell and coming to terms with death.
