Mcdull, Prince De La Bun(25th Anniversary of HKFCS Awards) @MOViE MOViE

McDull, the Hong Kong piglet well-known from the breakthrough animation work My Life as McDull (2001), has somewhat unwittingly become the latest icon in the Hong Kong cinema. This sequel combines fairy tale and postmodern urban Hong Kong culture with an additional strain of family history in which McDull learns about his father McBing, also known as Prince de la Bun. McBing has seemingly evaporated into a fantasy world, leaving his son and wife to cope with the rigours of the “real” world. Here, nostalgia and fantasy are interlocked into an allegory about modern redevelopment in Hong Kong that will affect McDull’s future, giving him an anxiety attack in the form of a shaking leg.
